Overview

Effective design of software and operating systems is crucial for maximizing usability for people with disabilities, older users, children, and people who use software in noisy or distracting environments. Course topics include:

  1. You will understand how functional limitations affect software access.
  2. You will understand the links between usability and accessibility.
  3. You will see demonstrations of assistive technologies and alternative access techniques that people with disabilities use to operate software.
  4. You will know basic techniques for testing software accessibility.
  5. You will conduct basic accessibility audits of your software products.
  6. You will undestand how to apply the Accessibility Standards mandated by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
