Overview

Danny advises in these areas:

• Developing a convincing rationale for program support to your administration.
• Identifying a strategy for successfully gaining recognition and funding for your program, based on your campus' unique organizational structure.
• Helping mediate between the two (often non-communicative) subcultures that must be involved for any program to succeed, e.g., Information Technology Services and Disabled Student Services.
• Developing long-term technology plans to focus yours — and your campus' — technology accessibility efforts.
• Making information technology accessibility a routine part of your campus' IT planning process, rather than an after-thought or costly retrofit.
• Ensuring access to campus-wide information technology resources, including public and discipline-specific computing labs, online information resources, library resources, etc.
• Identifying key areas and potential services to meet the unique needs of your client population, including:

1. Providing technology support for people with learning disabilities.
2. Providing reading materials in alternative formats (Braille, e-text, speech output, large print, html, foreign language, etc.)
3. Developing an equipment loaner pool for providing flexible accommodations.
4. Developing workplace accommodation strategies for employees with disabilities.
5. Providing ergonomic support for repetitive strain injuries, including prevention education.

• Developing effective partnerships between your adaptive computing service and other key campus services that impact the education and employment opportunities of people with disabilities, including the library, information technology services, disabled student services, human resources, rehabilitation services, the ADA/504 office, and others.
• Tracking emerging technologies and accessibility issues to keep your campus strongly proactive with regard to disability law compliance.
